On April 8, 2026 at the Governor's Conference on Tourism in Traverse City, the Michigan Air Line Trail was officially designated as a Pure Michigan Trail. The Air Line is just one of three trails in Oakland County to have earned this designation, and joins about a dozen other trails in Michigan that have been recognized. There are many different types of users on all recreational trails. Some are just out for a quick run, some are commuting to work, and others might be walking the dog or taking a multi-day trip across the state.
